My name is Abigail Carter, I am a single parent of two teenage boys and live rurally in Carmarthenshire. I now own and run a small holistic therapies business, offering different types of massage and relaxing treatments.
I qualified many years ago but used my skills as a hobby for family and friends. However, during the pandemic I read about the use of holistic therapies as a preventative for disease, and it piqued my interest.
A few weeks later I was working with Business Wales building the foundations for my holistic therapies business. It was here that Purple Shoots was recommended to me for financial support.
From the point of contact with Purple Shoots, I felt I was supported fully. Stuart showed a genuine interest in my project which gave me confidence in what I was doing. We looked over my business plan and financial projection, Stuart helped me recognise what I could realistically achieve with the tools/skills I had to hand.
With the money I received from Purple Shoots I was able to purchase essential equipment, also pay for additional training which broadened what treatments I could offer. Without this cash injection I would not have been able to start up this business. At the time of building my business I was still working full time, but being a single mother with two children, I lived paycheck to paycheck. I had no savings and a poor credit score, which meant very limited options for support. So as you can imagine, I am extremely grateful to both Purple Shoots and all those that support and invest in this company.
It’s been a couple of years now and I still continue to grow and shape my business. I have recently left my full time position to solely focus on holistic therapies and now planning to qualify in Ayurvedic practice, which is really exciting!! Through this journey my confidence has come on leaps and bounds, I enjoy networking with other business owners and have met some incredibly interesting people! I am finally doing something that I completely love and enjoy and continuously learning more and more. It’s great!
